I already explained why I wanted to start All Nerds Allowed in a different post, so I won’t go into all that again. Instead, I will use this page to go over my own interests, and what upcoming projects I plan to share with you.
I would describe myself as a nerd that likes to make things. Many of the things I make come from works of fiction that I enjoy. I also like to take away a lesson or new skill from the projects I take on. Years ago I made a model of the Enterprise-D from Star Trek: The Next Generation. While I enjoyed the show growing up (and still do), a big part of why I made the model was so I could learn how to use an airbrush. I also ended up learning how to solder after deciding to light the model. Making the custom computer desk taught me about 3D modeling, wood joinery, and finishing. My efforts in 3D printing continue to be a learning experience.
I have more projects lined up right now than I have time to work on. My amazing wife bought me a model of the U.S.S. Constitution as a birthday present some time ago. It sits on a shelf in my garage. Next to it I have two other models still waiting to be built. Those are an Enterprise-A refit, and a Millennium Falcon that I have always wanted to make.
I am interested in more than just plastic models, though. I enjoy watching all the Marvel movies that are released every year, and plan to write something about my experiences with those at some point. It is still crazy to me that the comic books I read as a child are now coming to life on the big screen. The fact that they are incredibly popular is just icing on the cake.
Lastly (for now), I am excited to begin working on the backyard at my house. It will involve a lot of weeding, paving, laying sod, and building a playground for the kids. Surely, it will provide me with plenty of stories to tell. I hope to share those stories with you here.
